The app

Sablerune for iPhone

Sablerune open on Today: Monday, November 23, the Day of the Moon in New York, the hour dial with the Moon’s hour lit and 43 minutes left.

The planetary hours where you are, the moon night by night, and everything that goes with them.

Sablerune works out the day’s planet and its twenty-four hours from your own sunrise and sunset. It follows the Moon through her phases and mansions, and keeps the herbs, stones, candles, rites and practices that belong to each hour and night. The lore is told as lore, the way an old almanac tells it.

Today

The hours and the day

Every day belongs to a planet, and every hour too. Today opens on the dial of the twenty-four hours, then the hour you’re in and what it’s traditionally good for, your three for the day, and the day read against your own chart.

  • This hour in Sablerune: the Moon’s hour, 6:55 to 8:07 pm, and what it’s traditionally good for.
The old books give the Moon’s hour to dreams, home and journeys, and on her own day it runs strongest.
  • For you: the day read against a chart, the Moon crossing its 10th house, then Monday at a glance.
The same sky, read for you: where the Moon walks through your chart today.

Moon

The Moon and the year

Tonight’s moon, how full she is and where she stands, the month’s phases and mansions, and the whole year on one wheel: every full and new moon, the sabbats and the old feast days.

  • The Moon tab: 99% lit tonight and fullest tomorrow, moonrise and moonset, the Moon in Taurus and her mansion.
Ninety-nine per cent lit tonight and fullest tomorrow. Many keep this night for clear seeing and giving thanks.
  • The year’s moons: 2026 on one wheel, every full and new moon by its emblem, the Beaver Moon next.
Every full and new moon of the year, each with its old name. November’s is the Beaver Moon.
  • Yule: the festival’s plate of the log, the holly and the candle, 28 days off.
The longest night, and the sun reborn.

Draw

Cards and runes

A card a day from the Sablerune Tarot, read against the day’s sky, and spreads for when you have a question. Runes are cast from the cloth or shaken from the bag, one at a time or three for the Norns.

  • The Draw tab: today’s card, Ask, and the spreads.
One card from the Sablerune Tarot, read against today’s sky.
  • The Star, XVII of the Sablerune Tarot, with its meaning upright and reversed.
Renewal after the storm. The Star pours out what she has and is filled again.
  • Casting one rune from the cloth, under the Moon’s hour and a full moon in Taurus.
Touch the stone your hand goes to first.

Learn

What everything means

Herbs, stones, metals, colours, candles, incense and oils, each with its lore and what’s true of it today. Then the sky, the tarot, the runes, the Tree of Life and the old folk ways, all in one place and all searchable.

  • Learn: one search over everything, and Look something up, from plants and herbs to planets and days.
Herbs, stones, metals, colours, candles and oils, each with what’s true today.
  • Mugwort: the engraved specimen, what it’s for, its lore and its care.
Roman travellers carried mugwort against weariness, and a sprig under the pillow is an old charm for vivid dreams.
  • Candles: what a candle is for, and fifteen colours lit, the day’s own marked.
Light it to begin, hold your purpose while it burns, and it’s done when the flame goes out.

You

Your chart, and questions

Add when and where you were born and Sablerune reads the day for you. Tap a planet in your chart and its aspects light. Ask a question and it’s answered from your chart, the sky and your readings.

  • A natal chart with the Moon chosen, her aspects drawn, and her reading: Moon in Cancer, at home.
Tap a planet and its aspects light. The Moon in Cancer is at home.
  • The big three on the zodiac: Sun in Libra, Moon in Cancer and Leo rising.
Sun in Libra, Moon in Cancer, Leo rising: the three that say the most.
  • Ask: a question answered from the chart and the sky, with questions to try.
Ask what tonight’s moon means for you.

The course

Sixteen lessons, one at a time

A book within Sablerune, in four units from the foundations to the craft. Read a lesson, try one of its practices, write a few lines. Review cards help it stay, and there’s a longer reading when you want to go deeper.

  • The course: sixteen lessons in four units, the first ready to open.
Read, try, reflect. A book within Sablerune, one lesson at a time.
  • A lesson, The seven spheres.
The old Hermetic writings picture the soul coming down through the seven planetary spheres, and the work as the climb back up.

Practice

Rites and practices

About a hundred guided rites in fourteen families, from moon water to a full moon bath, each with what it’s for, what to gather and the steps, and the ones that suit tonight come first. Then the quieter practices: a sit, a breath, a sound to sleep to, a page of writing or a square to draw.

  • Practice: tonight’s three, Moon water, a full moon bath and the night breath.
Something to do, now or when the time is right.
  • The rite library, the rites that suit tonight first.
Guided rites for body, home and spirit.
  • Keeping the full moon: what it’s for and what to gather.
Many keep each full moon as a small feast of its own: a candle, a cup and something to eat.
  • The practices: Sit, Breathe, Sound, Sleep, Intention, Reflect, Shadow, The self you rehearse, The clairs, Talismans and Your grimoire.
A breath, a sit, a page of writing or a square to draw.
  • Sit: today’s centre, the Moon, the seven centres and the guided sits.
Breath, attention and one thing to hold. A bell begins and ends it.
  • Breathe: the breath for now and the breaths to settle.
A breath for each planet, and one for the still point.

Optional

The Goetic spirits, if you choose them

Settings, What to show, Spirits: angels, planetary spirits and gods switched on, Goetic spirits off.
The Goetic spirits stay off unless you turn them on.

Sablerune leaves the Goetic spirits out unless you turn them on, in Settings › What to show, and keeps them off for anyone under 18. Angels, the planetary spirits and the gods come on with a new install, and each kind can be switched off in the same place. With all four off, Sablerune leaves spirits out altogether, and every other screen on this page was taken that way.

Turn the Goetic spirits on and each has its seal and its page, the day’s spirit and its working lead Tonight, and every card names the two who answer on it, one by day and one by night.

Show the Goetic spirits
  • Tonight’s working on Today: Orias, in the Moon’s hour, with the others who keep the night.
Orias keeps Monday nights, and is said to teach the stars and good timing.
  • Orias, Marquis of the Goetia, with his seal.
A marquis of the Goetia, who keeps the night under the full moon.
  • The Eight of Wands with its spirits on: Beleth by day and Crocell by night, each with their seal and their angel.
Two spirits answer on each card: one while the sun is up, one after it sets.
